March 9 Takeover - Bystander Shot

As the teen takeovers continue in Streeterville, a gathering on Sunday night has one woman shot. Bullet casings were found on East Illinois Street near the AMC Theater, which is a hotspot for disturbances. 

She was shot in the right arm and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Teens rushed into the Embassy Suites where another disturbance occurred and police requested a second ambulance.

McDonalds Closes Due to Trespassing

The Streeterville McDonalds at 645 N McClurg Court was taken over by teens shortly before 10:30 p.m. Teens breached the front counter area causing the restaurant to close.

Locations where disturbances occured:

Several arrests were made along East Illinois Street, including one 18-year-old for Reckless Conduct.

The exact address of the arrest was 393 E. Illinois which is across the street from the AMC Theaters near the UnCork It Liquor Store.

Two Shot and Killed at Navy Pier

According to police radio transmissions, two men were shot and killed on election day shortly after 1 p.m. The shooter then fled East on Illinois through Streeterville possibly getting on a CTA bus at Illinois and Michigan.

Shooting in Whole Foods Garage

Friday, June 14, 2024

The call went out to the 18th District at 8:37 a.m. Friday morning regarding a man shot in the Whole Foods parking garage at 227 E Grand. The shooter was described as a black male in his 30's with long dreads. A male victim was found outside on the sidewalk who was taken to Northwestern in good condition at 9:09 a.m. The firearm has been recovered.

The 240 E Illinois parking garage is on lockdown while a search is underway.

Alderman Asking for Curfew, Residents Start Petition

Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) wants an 8 p.m. curfew for any minors who are unaccompanied by adults in Streeterville or the Central Business District downtown. Alderman Brendan Reilly (42nd) has co-sponsored.

As of May of 2023, Hopkins acts as Chairman of the Committee on Public Safety in the city of Chicago.

Streeterville residents are starting a petition to the Mayors office to fast track attention to the area and push a curfew through the red tape.

Teens Continue to Cause Chaos - Residents Attacked

Wednesday, June 5, 2024

After the resident attack on Friday night, teens continue to show up nightly on the 300-block of East Illinois Street. Many business in this area have been affected, including Whole Foods, AMC Theater, Walgreens, Target, Subway and the River East Center condos at 512 N McClurg.

Streeterville Neighborhood Advocates is asking area business to call 911 when the teens begin to gather.
